Abu Dhabi

I follow my heart to places and never regret

I am Shaikha. I was born in the Cultural Capital of the UAE, Sharjah, and I was raised in an extended Emirati family (Mother, Siblings, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nannies, etc…), if you think that taught me a thing or two about the art of the “survival of the fittest” you would very much be wrong. I am as spontaneous and transparent as I was at 10 years old, never quite managed to fake a cold to get a day off of school, and still suck at it!

I consider myself one of the luckiest people on earth for various reasons; but especially because I get to realize my childhood dream by travelling the world with my soul mate, best friend and husband, Angel. He was born in the island with arguably the best weather in the world, Gran Canaria – Spain. Yes, he speaks Spanish with a funny accent. It’s the cutest thing ever 🙂

We currently live in the wonderful City of Life, Dubai, which makes a great home-base for a couple of wanderlusters, since it is normally a short flight away from most of the places we’d love to visit.

Elephant trekking in Thailand

Together Angel and I have travelled to many beautiful places, including Kenya, Thailand, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, UK, Qatar, Hong Kong, Italy, Oman, Mauritius and Singapore. We are always thinking of our next destination, and can’t wait to see where we are going to spend our 50 first honeymoons…..

Hyde Park

Christmas in London

Personally, I believe that travel is a way of life, a school, and by far the best way through self-discovery. After all, life is nothing but a journey, and I am determined to put one foot in front of the other as long as there are roads in this world…

Honk Kong

Madame Tussaud’s – Hong Kong

On My Super Space I share travel stories, my travel photography and reflect on special moments. Sometimes I bitch and moan about married life, just like any other loving wife out there.

Cinque Terre Italy

Hiking the Cinque Terre

Want to get to know the traveller in me a bit better? Here are some random facts about me:

My Favourite Explorer is Ibn Battuta. He was way ahead of his time…

I have an Author crush on Elizabeth Gilbert. Eat Prey Love and Committed are my comfort pads, I revisit parts of them whenever I need to cast demons away, and there is no room for more ice-cream in my daily calorie allowance…

I listen to 2 -3 travel audiobooks in my car every month, during my daily 2 hours commute to work!

My Favourite Travel/Game Show is The Amazing Race. You think there will be a Dubai edition one day?

My favourite Spanish food – Churros con chocolate

I have been to 20+ countries, 4 continents and counting….

I hate the process of obtaining a visa to visit a county, so I prefer to travel to those that grant you one on arrival. Shhhh

I use a Nikon D5000 and my iPhone5 to take all my travel photos. Angel just got me a new toy as a birthday gift, a Nikon D600. I have a feeling it will come with me to many places.

I won a Travel Photography Award with the Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine – Middle East, in February 2013

I spend too much time on Instagram, I just love it.

Climbing Kilimanjaro – Tanzania

I love this quote: “Perhaps Travel Cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry, die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends”- Maya Angelou

Feel free to follow my journey 🙂
